Wander, Soak, and Explore
Escape the city noise for birdsong, big skies and slow moments. At Gilgooma, you can plan a full day of discovery — or let the place guide you. Whether you're keen to walk, write, birdwatch, or just breathe deeper, we’ve mapped out self-guided walks and curated a handful of slow-travel day trips for our guests.
Feasts & Fire
Good food tastes better outdoors. At Gilgooma, lamb is at the heart of what we do, and our meals celebrate it: choose from a slow-cooked lamb roast, a rich lamb curry, or simple BBQ chops — always served with seasonal vegetables and fresh herbs from the garden where possible. Gather under the trees or by the firepit, swap stories, and let the night roll on. Feasts & Fire experiences can be booked as an add-on to your accommodation — just let us know when you reserve your stay, and we’ll take care of the rest.
Night Sky
Out here, the stars put on a show every night. Lie back on shearer’s stretchers and look up: the Milky Way arcs across the sky, satellites slip past, and shooting stars streak the dark. To deepen the experience, make the most of the onsite wifi to download a free stargazing app like SkyView Lite or Sky Safari — they’ll help you spot constellations and planets as you watch the sky come alive. It’s quiet, humbling and unforgettable.
Self-Guided Walks
With thousands of hectares of farm to explore and the Pilliga West Conservation Area next door, you can walk your way to wellness. We have created a few tracks for you:
Creek Crossing – native flora, birdlife, and cool shade
Operations Update – what’s happening in the paddocks today
Meet the Neighbours – wander through the scrub and spot wildlife
History Lesson – traces of those who lived and worked here before us
Big Sky Country – our go-to spot for sunsets and stargazing
You’ll get access to our mud maps and insider tips once your booking’s confirmed — the kind of knowledge that only comes from living on the land. Expect creek-bed shade, kangaroos that pause to watch you, and quiet you can feel.
Soak in Artesian Calm
Out here, we’ve got natural artesian water piped up from deep underground — mineral-rich and warm, perfect for a quiet soak. Our rustic bathing trough lets you unwind under gum trees or starlight.
Ideal after a long walk, a hard day’s thinking, or just because you can. Available to on-site guests; let us know your interest when you book and we’ll confirm timing in your pre-arrival email.
Remote Working, Bush Style
Yes, there’s Wi-Fi. And yes, people have written reports, articles, and whole business plans under our tin roof.
Whether you’re here to work, write, or reset your head, Gilgooma gives you the quiet, the time, and the landscape to do it right.
Day Trips
We’ve put together a few off-the-beaten-track itineraries for those keen to explore further afield:
Like a Local – top spots for coffee, cold beer, or a yarn
The Warrumbungle Way – volcanoes, vistas, and big skies
Pilliga Princess – bush art, thermal pools, and hidden pockets
Come-By-Chance – history, hilarity, and roads less travelled
Each one includes where to eat, what to see, and who to meet — if you’re up for it.
It’s not about ticking things off. It’s about noticing more.
Gilgooma meets you where you are — whether you’re here to explore or exhale.
